XP StoryStudio is a free project-management portal for systems being developed using Agile methodologies - specifically XP. It has been developed internally by a team of enterprise developers at Egg Plc who've worked on Agile projects in real-world environments for several years. Pre-release v0.99b is now available for download. This is a minor update from v0.99, taking functional and non-functional feedback from v0.99 into account. Specifically, the following changes have been implemented:

  • Iterations can be deleted. In v0.99, this feature just linked to the Story Delete, and wasn't implemented.
  • Date fields now have pop-up calendars
  • Installer now supports choice of whether to run/not run tests following installation
  • Installer now supports not configuring the database
  • Installer will now work without SQL Server being installed on the local machine

This version is still intended for limited distribution to test installation and integration issues prior to the public release. As such, should issues be found, please forward them to: support@xpstorystudio.com. Before installing the application, please read any documentation enclosed within the downloaded archive. Note that the original v0.99 release is no longer available for download. To download XP Story Studio v0.99b, click here.

To perform an upgrade from v0.99, first uninstall the existing version (this will NOT remove your existing database), then run the v0.99b MSI installer and select the database upgrade version.

XPStoryStudio is undergoing final pre-release preparations - creating the documentation, generating the installer package, etc. The 1.0 release will be available for download iminently. In the meantime, take a look at the Screenshots (as linked to on the right) for a preview of the product.

Features

Whilst the features available in XP StoryStudio are being added to all the time, its core functionality is as follows:

  • Multiple project "portal" approach
  • Role based security, with the option to enable anonymous usage
  • Resource <-> task allocation to give visibility of developer utilisation
  • Skinning support, to allow branding to corporate guidelines
  • Graphing of project progress - story and story point burndown, story accumulation, development rate across iterations
  • Projections of project duration, effort required, etc.

Development

This public release of XP StoryStudio was been redeveloped from the ground-up following successful usage of an internal version within Egg over previous years. The development of this version of has been overseen by David Leigh-Fellows and James Greenwood, with Dave looking after the concept and vision, and James managing the architecture, development, and other technical aspects.
